AXA Identifies Hazardous Young Drivers in UK

A recent research by AXA, UK insurance company, revealed that there are approximately 1.5 million of so-called "stop start" drivers in Great Britain.
This group of drivers is potentially hazardous to themselves and others on the road and contributes to increases in car insurance premiums.
"Stop Start" drivers are those, aged 17 to 29, who have obtained their driver licence but rarely get behind the wheel.
As such, the research showed that almost 20% of young drivers drive once or twice a month at max. The proportion of those young drivers who believe they remember the driving rules is only 45%.
As such, when asked questions about the Highway Code, almost half of young drivers failed to identify the speed limit on motorway, to identify signs and lines.
According to AXA experts, the main reason for the emergence of "stop start" drivers is the high cost of buying and owning a car.
The full report by AXA on “stop start” drivers, which was published on March, 19th 2011, is available on the official website of AXA branch in Great Britain.
