Winter Sports Equipment Not Covered by Travel Insurance

A study by Defaqto revealed that most insurance providers in the UK do not offer protection for winter sports equipment.

The latest research of UK insurance market performed by independent consumer group Defaqto in the run up to Christmas holidays showed that 13% of travel insurance policies do not cover winter sports.

Furthermore, 80% of insurance policies that actually cover sports equipment, including skies and snowboards, are only limited to 1,000 pounds. The protection of sports equipment up to 2,000 pounds is only offered by 2% of UK insuring companies.

Commenting on the findings, Mike Powell of Defaqto, said: "To ensure they get the right type and level of cover for their trip, people need to focus first and foremost on pinpointing the features they need."

That is why he suggested that winter sports fans check with their insurance company to see whether it offers protection for winter sports equipment. In case it doesn't, "choosing the cheapest policy" is the best way out, believes Mr. Powell.
