Holidaymakers reminded to take care of their travel insurance

New research commissioned by Aviva has revealed that unusually cold winter has made many people want to spend their holidays abroad.
However, potential holidaymakers are limited in funds because of the current economic situation. According to the insurer, travellers will be spending less than usual. Thirty-one percent admitted that they would either skip taking out insurance or have not decided whether they should buy it.
Many have confessed that they are going to be more careful with cash, cutting back on eating out whilst on holiday (40%) or limiting the amount of money they are going to spend each day of their holiday (62%).
Jerry Finch, travel product manager at Aviva, explains it is understandable that after a long, cold winter people want to travel somewhere hot. But with the current economic situation most of them are not thrilled about costs that such a trip may involve. Travel insurance, however, offers essential protection, and cutting back on it can be quite a big mistake. It is also important to remember that EHIC does not substitute for travel insurance.

Travel insurance doesn't cost that much and it is probably much more important than spending money or nights out. I once ended up in the hospital while on holidays and I was really grateful that I didn't have to worry about medical bills. I now will not board that plane without one.
