International Students in York Unable to Access Banking Services

International students who arrived this year in York claim they have problems setting up accounts in UK banks and resolving other financial matters.

Moreover, they say that the University failed to help them address these issues before the arrival as well as after it.

Commenting on the situation, the International Student Welfare Office said that it had not received any official complaints from foreign students; however, it admitted that dissatisfied students do not know how to contact the office.

Complaints about UK banking services have been received from Agata Łach (Poland), Lorraine Chan (Hong Kong), and many other students from different countries.

Ms. Borisovaite of the Welfare Office at the University said that sometimes UK financial institutions do overlook international students. Those who have been affected by such attitude should immediately contact Advice and Support Centre at the University.

Even though the fault lies with the banks, the University will do its best to make life easier for international students.
