Spending Cuts to Affect UK Motorcyclists - Swinton Insurance

The spending cuts announced by George Osborne might lead to a decrease in the safety of UK motorcyclists, warns Swinton Bikes, British insurance company specialising in bike cover.

The 20% cut in state funding for police might result in a reduced number of road safety schemes in place. Some of the schemes that might be affected are Wheels to Work and Bikesafe. This, in its turn, might lead to a rise in the number of collisions and other accidents and, as a result, to higher levels of road deaths and injuries.

On top of that, the UK government plans to cut funding for road maintenance, which is certain to lead to poor quality of pavement and increased number of accidents and damages to transport.

Commenting on the coming cuts, Mr. Aronin of Swinton Bikes said that although the company understands that the cuts in funding are a necessity, it is a shame that safety of UK motorcyclists is being affected by them.

Meanwhile, more and more bikers in the UK plan to use their motorcycles to drive in winter. This initiative has been approved by Motorcycle Industry Association, but poses extra risks for the drivers themselves.
