Over 26,000 Motorcycles Stolen in UK Annually

A recent research carried out by Express Insurance - UK-based specialist motorcycle insurer - showed that bikers are highly unlikely to see their stolen bikes.

The company's statistics suggests that there were 26,000 motorcycles stolen in Great Britain in 2009. Of those, only 10,939 or 42.25% were recovered.

These figures are 4% down from those registered in the year of 2006, when 12,000 were returned to their owners, constituting 46.42%.

Commenting on the gloomy figures, experts at Express Insurance said that motorcyclists should make sure that their bikes are as secure as possible and insured against theft and damage.

Mr. Way, managing director at the insurance company, said: "it’s a disturbing fact that more than 70 bikes are stolen in the UK every single day and it makes sense that you should lock your bike wherever you leave it. Attach it to something that keeps the bike anchored. Bikers often get complacent about security at home or in the garage and it is crucial to invest in a ground anchor and get a good quality, Thatcham-approved chain."
