UK Crime Level Linked to Economic Downturn – Legal & General

Legal & General, one of the leading UK insurers, published its response to the British Crime Survey. In the opinion of L&G experts, there is a strong correlation between a rise in burglary level and economic recession.
As such, British Crime Survey showed that burglary in England and Wales rose by 14%. Meanwhile, the country's economic environment is far from being stable as many households struggle with financial problems.
Mr. Cooper of Legal & General highlighted that crime levels were the lowest in mid 1990's and 2000's as police and insurance companies worked hard.
Legal & General provided its customers with recommendations on how to secure their properties. The insurer suggests installing a good alarm system and locking all doors and windows when sleeping or leaving the property.
Earlier, we have reported that less than 50% of burglars end up in prison, while 52% of those with suspended sentence reoffend.
