Householders Warned not to Post Holiday Details on Social Networks

The Association of British Insurers warned homeowners not to post their holiday plans on the Net. According to the data presented by the Association about 40% of users reveal personal information about their holiday plans on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
Those who have a habit of posting such information online might end up paying more for their home insurance because their posts are often used by burglars. Criminals search for property left by the owners for the weekend or holidays.
Although Facebook representatives say that there are special privacy settings that allow users to protect their private information experts believe that many people do not use this option and their postings are used by criminals to make a special “target hit list”.
According to the official data, one out of ten homeowners makes a claim on their contents or property every year. Insurers are seriously considering rising the insurance by 10% to cover the costs of claims connected with break-ins.
