Home Insurance Claims Most Popular Among Fraudsters

A recent report published by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) suggests that home insurance is the main target of fraudsters so far. Their research into fraud insurance claims showed that 50% of all false claims (that is, 170 out of 335) account for home protection.

The most popular claims made by fraudulent householders are accidental damage to furniture and carpets.

The second most popular type of insurance among fraudsters is auto protection. Even though the proportion of false claims in this area is lower, they tend to be more costly.

The two most outstanding cheats registered by the Association of British Insurers include:

- a situation where a UK consumer said that the DVDs he bought in Great Britain were stolen from his house. However, the movies were yet to be released in the UK;

- a situation where a UK driver got into an accident in Germany and then shipped the car back to Great Britain, where he left it alongside a road.

ABI warns that making false claims brings negative consequences not only to fraudsters, but to honest policyholders as well and urges everyone to use their protection policy wisely.
