AVIVA to Dominate in Group Critical Illness Insurance Market

Aviva has launched a new group critical illness product. It is one of the lead insurance companies in the market that now wants to dominate the group side.
According to Aviva's executive marketing director, David Barral their intention is becoming number one in protection market by signing off a three-year plan.
The insurance plan can be purchased voluntarily or by a company. One can insure either extended list of illnesses or a standard one with the benefit of maximum five times the person’s salary.
Aviva says it will reduce the pre-existing condition exclusion administration and will remove full medical underwriting which should simplify the application process.
Aviva’s head of group risk, Steve Bridger says that the insurance solution was prompted by the increaseв demand for lower cost benefits for employees. He also says that Aviva’s entering the market will give agents a much wider choice of the provider.
Aviva states that it has used all its clinical knowledge in private health insurances when working on the group income protection insurances. Tele-interviewing was one of the approches taken from individual income protection insurance business that was successfully applied to group risk.

  1. It is certainly a very attractive proposition, however I am a bit sceptical if this idea is sustainable. Most insurance companies pay out over 90% of claims, and over 50% of those iscancer, can they afford to overlook pre-existing condition and simplify the application process? I doubt it.
