Google will not enter the UK's Digital TV Market

The Google TV service has just been officially presented in the USA. The service will allow users to search the Web and download various applications on their TV.

Google TV allows you to search for video content from the web, satellite and cable channels, as well as content from some digital video recorders. Google uses its own operating system Android and Google Chrome browser for the project. The platform can be used on new specially enabled TV sets. As part of the TV project, Google has partnered with Sony and Logitech. One of the essential preconditions of the new platform is the availability of broadband Internet access.

On the top of your TV screen there will be a special search bar to recognise the time of TV shows and program them into your digital video recorder; online results will also be shown. If your favourite programme is not going to come up, some pieces can be seen on the Web resources.

For now, it is not intended to introduce Google TV in the UK. Despite branching into digital television, Google announced that it is not their “business” to compete with bids for national UK TV rights. “It's more a question of can we build a platform which they can use to get even broader functions and even broader rights.”
