No More Fee-Free Cash Withdrawals Abroad for Basic Current Account Customers

Nationwide building society has announced that basic current account customers will not be able to withdraw cash without paying any fees while travelling abroad.
This is bad news for those clients who have opened Nationwide’s basic cash card account especially to use fee-free cash machine withdrawals during their holiday trips abroad. The deal has been originally aimed at people with bad credit rating who are not able to get an account with an overdraft.
In order to sugar the pill Nationwide offers some new features on Cash Card accounts such as the ability to use a new card at restaurants and shops abroad as well as at UK retailers. It can also be used for making purchases over the phone or online. These types of services have not been available for basic current account holders before.
For those who still want the fee-free cash machine withdrawal option Nationwide offers full service FlexAccount.
The new cards will be issued between June and September although the sort code and the account number will be the same.
