Default Will without a solicitor?

My friend doesn't have a will in place, I was trying to convince him that it is important to have, escpecially when he and his partner are not married and have a small baby. After a while he agreed that he will have one, but he doesn't think that it make sense to go to solicitor and pay all that money. he said that there is template on sale at Tesco for £9.99 or something, which just as good, all you need to do is fill the form and verify the signature. However, I am not convinced, I think that it have to be done by professional, but perhaps I am wrong, please help.

Hi
As for your friend , I think , it is worth going to professional (solicitor) and enquire about necessary documents which required for official registration of his will.
It will be better for his family , if the future is defined!!!
Good luck!

Thanks Romvig,
Exactly right! I don't believe that cheap solutions are appropriate in this case.
