Hieverybody! I hope someone here will have a dog or a cat. I have a dog, which is 5 years old. She was never insured before. I suppose I am quite lucky as she is quite healthy and the only time I visit a vet is for her annual vaccinations. However, last year she had to have a surgery and it did cost me £600. It made me think about pet insurance. I have started looking for quotes, but there is a question asking if she needed any medical treatment and when. After that all quotes come as declined. I wonder if there is any specific period of time I have to wait until I can insure her. On the other hand when I think about it, £600 over 5 years is not that much. If I had an insurance policy for the last 5 years, let’s say paying £20 a month, then the total would have been £1200. But, I am now worried if anything went wrong and the bill was £3000, what would I do? I would appreciate any thoughts on this matter.

Hi Jess
We have two dogs and they are both insured. One of them had an accident and we discovered that he has some blood problems. he was very sick and we had to go to Glasgow Hospital to have treatment. Now he needs to have medication, which cost a fortune. The problem is we don't know for how long he will have to take it and if it will make a real difference, but I know for sure that without pet insurance we will not be able to continue with this treatment as it is very expensive. At the minute they pay 50% of our prescription charges and it does make a big difference. However, check what policy covers so you know what is covered and what is not. |
