Can't get Income Protection

I want to get an income protection policy, but I can’t. I have called few providers and I get the same, they can’t do it. There is a question if there were any redundancies in the last year and of course, my answer is yes. Our company did make quite a few redundancies before Christmas and I don’t think anybody can be sure that there will be no more in the future. I work in the bank, and I feel very insecure, that is the reason I want this insurance, but it looks like that insurance companies only want a safe bet, when they will not need to pay. I want to know what are my options? I feel that it is not right to penalise me for credit crunch.
