Cheap Australia Flights for one year trip?

Hi,

I've decided to pack my bags and go to live/work in Australia for a year or so whilst I have the opportunity. The problem is, my budget is quite tight, but tickets seem to be really pricey at the moment.

I planned to go to Sydney in the first week of August, but I'm struggling to find many options for under £500.

I'm pretty flexible on dates (to fly! ) and after speaking to travel agents they say that prices are so high as it is a holiday season and school holidays and it'll be better to wait till September, which is really too far away.

Am I better to wait until the last minute or the cost will be even more?
